Locking the Gate at the Simpson Airpark.
When the padlock on the cable at the Simpson Airpark is incorrectly installed, it is fairly easy for vandals to break the lock by applying a fairly small load on the cable, like pushing with a 4 wheel ATV. So far this year, we have had to replace 3 of these locks, which cost nearly $30 each! When incorrectly installed, the cable pulls on the body of the lock, with the result that the hardened shank damages the brass internals of the lock. When correctly installed, the hardened shank directs the cable loads to the eyebolts in the posts. The pictures below illustrate the right and wrong ways to secure the gate cable when leaving. The left picture is the correct method and the right one is the wrong method. Please use the correct method!
